Thank
you for interest in supporting the important services that
COPE Eldercare provides seniors and their families in Wake
County & Eastern Chatham County. While you consider how
you would like to help, read Annie's story:
Annie
hadn't planned on leaving her home of 25 years but circumstances
occurred that left her no choice. Her husband died and due
to memory loss she was unable to live independently. Much
of her life had been spent as a nurse caring for others. Annie
was now finding herself moving to a new state to live with
her daughter. They managed well but after a couple of years
the environment became unsafe, Annie's needs increased, and
the stress on her daughter who was trying to work full time
became too much. With a sense of guilt, failure, and trepidation
Annie's daughter contacted COPE Eldercare for guidance and
was introduced to a geriatric care manager.
Annie
was evaluated and found to be an ideal candidate for assisted
living. She was able to move into her own apartment in a local
facility; encouraged to remain as independent as possible,
while simultaneously benefiting from the support of the staff.
Annie's daughter would still worry about her mother and visit
frequently, but with the added support of the geriatric care
manager monitoring her mother's care and providing friendly
visits, the assistance helped to ensure a comfortable transition
to the new environment. Annie still faces challenges daily
due to her memory loss, but COPE Eldercare will continue to
support the family as her journey continues.
There
are many senior adults like Annie who would benefit from the
assistance of a geriatric care manager. COPE Eldercare is
the only nonprofit geriatric care management organization
in the Triangle and surrounding region. Services are provided
at a reduced rate to seniors who have limited incomes. Won't
you help local seniors and their families get the much needed
assistance they require as they encounter the challenges of
aging?
